about

Hunter Chang is a Chinese-American composer and conductor from Chicago, renowned for his versatility across film & media and concert music.

His blend of traditional orchestration with modern edginess captivates cinema and concert-hall audiences alike. He weaves complex emotion and intensity into his music, drawing on a command of Romantic-era composition, jazz, electronic music, and rock — and on a commitment to recording live musicians or full orchestra in every score, with sessions at studios including the Barbra Streisand Scoring Stage at Sony, Power Station, and Cow on the Wall Studio. The result is a distinctive sound that deepens the narrative power of his work.

Hunter has served as lead composer on over 50 projects spanning features, shorts, documentaries, and video games — among them Year One, the theatrical feature (now streaming) starring Elizabeth Yu, and Valley of Hype, a feature documentary that premiered on Yahoo Finance — earning recognition at international film festivals. His concert works have been performed worldwide by prestigious ensembles, including The Crossing and the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica.

Hunter believes in the power of music to transcend cultural and temporal boundaries, striving to create works that resonate with audiences universally.
